Come Monday, January 15, when the merger that made Cingular, AT&T and Bellsouth into share one umbrella becomes executory as it has been approved by the Federal regulators, the re-rebranding of Cingular will start taking place, and will soon be known as AT&T, not AT&T Wireless as this was the name that Cingular rebranded as the result of another merger a couple of years back. National ads will be launched that will focus on customer recall that “Cingular is now the new AT&T”, as well as the “Wireless from AT&T” catchphrase. As MobileTracker writes, “Initially advertisements will feature a transitional graphic that includes both logos much like what happened with the AT&T Wireless transition.” And according to PhoneScoop, “They will feature scenes where it looks like the Cingular “bars” are being illustrated and zoom out to show that it was actually the AT&T globe.” It is noteworthy that Cingular spent around 5 billion rebranding what used to be AT&T Wireless, according to Mobiletracker, and that almost a billion of that was spent last year.
